Peilan Shen is a graduate student from China and studying Intercultural Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Her previous experience in media and language education fostered a keen interest in promoting intercultural understanding and individual development. Through a joint program with the Wharton School, Peilan also began to pay close attention to the business world; and that is why she became an intern at The Awaken Group—she wanted to learn more about the practice of intercultural communication in business and its significance in human development, especially in this era of globalization.
Peilan feels that she has made the right decision. She says, “I have been learning from the masters of intercultural leadership development who have broadened my horizon and have been helping me come to a better understanding of globalization in the business world. And I myself have had quite a few valuable lessons in project management and team building.”
Peilan is currently working on a project called Working with China. The goal of the project is to find the gap of leadership development in companies in China, especially for those companies where intercultural business activities are involved, and identify some of the best ways to address these gaps. It is a theme of growing importance and she is earnestly looking forward to some meaningful achievement through this project.
